January 22nd to 26th, 2024
The team around Pascal Moser, with specialists from the Swiss company Oetiker, set up their workation in the STORY in Thusis for 1 week this January. The company is world-renowned for its reliable and high-performance connection and assembly solutions in a wide variety of industries. In particular, it is a valuable partner in the automotive industry with high demands on quality and reliability.
With this attitude, the team traveled to Thusis and prepared meticulously for this week. They had a challenge to solve, and consciously wanted a change of scenery. We were able to provide the setting they needed for this week with the rooms at STORY. A machine was installed in the coworking space, which was repeatedly used for specific experiments. We are happy that we were able to provide the appropriate power supply with our infrastructure. The workshop infrastructure, with whiteboards and the available walls, was used almost to the last space to plan the procedure together, to work on open questions in break-out sessions, to analyze and to develop new hypotheses that had to be verified. With our workshop in the Sportwerkstatt, we were even able to support with chip-removing modifications (see picture).
The team stayed in the lodge all week in the functional rooms, created for exactly such team retreats that last several days and nights. Because even the times when they are not working directly on the challenge have their value. The weekly planning regarding catering, which was carried out together, included very different approaches. From an aperitif in our lounge to a 'Tavolata' for dinner. And with the possibility of involving various local restaurants, we were able to put together a varied catering program to supply energy. The team also cooked twice in our communal kitchen with two fully equipped cooking areas and catered for each other. And the demands were very high. In my bar-hero role, I was even able to see the result for myself one evening and was promptly invited to dinner.
On Friday, the last day of the team workation, you could see the intensity of the week on the participants. Yes, of course, the evenings were sometimes a bit longer. But in my outside view, these have always contributed significantly to the fact that the common challenge could be viewed and further discussed from a different perspective and with some distance. And in addition, it has of course also strengthened the team spirit!
Many thanks to the Oetiker team! We are very happy that you have brought the STORY in Thusis to life so much. Thank you for choosing the location for your week together and for embarking on this experiment with us. We all were able to learn a lot - we took away a lot of feedback from you, were allowed to observe you how you use the location. And within the framework of your challenge, you were allowed to drive home or back to the office with new hypotheses that still need to be validated. And of course, bring the machine back safely.
When I asked what you would have done differently during your week, I heard from you that you would have liked to have planned more time for an outdoor activity in retrospect. Well, we all continue to learn. I personally like this realization very much. Since I am very convinced that it is worth jumping out of the usual frame again and again and looking at the whole thing from the outside. A walk in nature, a small hike or a bike tour together help to broaden the horizon and come up with new ideas.
I wish you continued success and look forward to the next time when we can also include a bike experience together.
Out of the box!? And with valuable support from inspiring nature.
And when are you planning your workation with your team?
